How a commission works

From first conversation to finished wall

An interior wall before and after a Sea by Land mural, showing the scale of the space
01

Site and brief

I walk the space in person where I can, or work from photographs, plans and elevations. We talk about what the space is for, who moves through it, and what you want people to feel when they arrive.

02

Concept and colour

You receive sketches and a colour study developed for your architecture, your light and your surroundings. Nothing is painted until the design is right on paper.

03

Preparation and scaling

Surfaces are prepared, the design is scaled and transferred, and materials are specified for the substrate and the climate. Exterior work is sealed for weather and UV.

Painting on site

I paint the work by hand. Most projects take four to eight days on site, and I work around your operating hours where a space needs to stay open.

Most commissions run four to eight weeks from first conversation to finished wall. Architects and designers are welcome at any stage, including concept and specification.

What clients say

What happens after the wall is finished

The reactions have been so positive. People stop to admire the boat, tell me how beautiful it is, and say it makes them happy when they pass by. Someone even knocked on my door just to compliment the mural and ask to photograph it.

One of our members cried when they saw it. Not because of the mural, but because of how it made the space feel.

Have a wall, building or space in mind?

Tell me about the space and I will come back to you with an honest view of whether it is a good fit, what it would involve, and what it would cost. No obligation either way.

Working between Spain and California, and travelling for the right project. Architects, interior designers and developers welcome at concept stage.

Budget guidance helps me tell you quickly whether a project is realistic. Nothing here is a commitment, and I will not pass your details to anyone.

Thank you. Your enquiry has arrived and I will come back to you personally within two working days.
Something went wrong sending that. Please email admin@seabyland.com directly and I will pick it up.
